A need to clean

What does your creative space look like?  Mine needs a good cleaning and reorganizing before the New Year.  Enter at Your Own Risk - that door hanger has become reality.

My sewing room/studio is a large basement bedroom so I have plenty of space for sewing.  And way too much space to fill up with supplies, UFOs, PIGs, and WIPs.  It has a huge long closet that actually looks somewhat organized in this photo. Don't be fooled by that glimpse of organization.  The closet are is actually reaching the chaos stage again lately.

And I'm ashamed to show you what I've stacked on the floor and on a chair just because I'm not sure where I want to put things or I'm too caught up stitching to put things away.

Next to my cutting station is a low bookcase with baskets on top that hold some kits and patterns that I want to keep on the radar.  I've gotten into the bad habit of hanging block sets that I'm working on from the front edges of those baskets.  Three on-going Quilt of Valor block sets are currently hanging there, instead of in the closet.

This whole room needs a big deep cleaning.  But I'll even settle for some surface organization at this point.

  1. I understand completely. My sewing room is the same way. Why do we let this happen?🤔

  2. I always get the cleaning urge about this time of the year, too. Something compelling about it. Even if it only scratches the surface. ps--If you did no sewing, your sewing room would never be messy. And that would be sad.

  3. 😄I thought I was the only one! I try hard to clean as I go,sometimes even manage to get prep work done for the next project but when it comes to cutting, sewing etc for the 3 quilts I'm finishing for Christmas ,if you enter , you're on your own 🤣🤣

  4. It is so easy to let the sewing room turn into chaos! Instead of cleaning up after each project, we're in a hurry to jump into the next one! Those leftover fabrics and scraps just pile up and don't usually get put away unless we need a fabric that's located somewhere in the mess. I feel your pain, happy stitching and have a blessed Christmas!

  5. It's not so much messy as the room of a very productive quilter. But I get it, order does promote calmness. Hope the clean up goes well and isn't too time consuming.

  6. I think we're all in the same boat right now when it comes to our sewing rooms! That week between Christmas and New Years will see a lot of cleaning and organizing. I like the blocks hung on the outside of your baskets - they're fun that way!

  7. I can usually keep up with my rooms neatness because I put things back where they belong every time! My Mom lamented of me ever learning that skill but it is ingrained now! lol

  8. (hand raised) I'm guilty too. And I've put it all on my blog. I used to be ashamed but now, I'm thinking if I put the mess out where everyone can see it maybe it'll put me into action. It's the ONE item on my to-do list during the holidays. Stay tuned. ;^)

  9. But look on the bright side-when you are not cleaning you are working through lots of projects, LOL. Seriously I know what you are saying tho'. We get so caught up in our projects that we don't want to take the time to clean up.
