My sewing preferences tend to lean toward bright saturated colors, but the stash (and scraps) do contain plenty of pastels too. So far this year I've kind of neglected those lighter shades, until Angela chose them for our June color. And because I had finished some major goals this week I was able to dive right into the pastels.
The first thing I did last Saturday after seeing we would be playing with pastels - was make 2 Confetti Stars, paper pieced from scraps in the light blue scrap bin.
Each month I've been making 4 Snail Trail blocks from that month's color. A few of those have already been in the pastel range. This week I added 4 more in pastel shades of blue, green, and lavender. An idea crossed my mind that I could divide these blocks into 2 quilts at the end of the year - divided by warm and cool colors, or maybe pastels vs brights. We'll see how many I end up with in the fall.
A few pastel Ticker Tape blocks happened too. Because this is a block I just started making in May, the only "bright" color so far is orange. During this month I'll also go back to some of the previous colors in the bolder shades to add to the collection gradually. There is a pile of these in patriotic prints going on too.
A donation quilt project that is mostly pastel is Salt Water Taffy (Villa Rosa). It's also teetering on the edge between WIP and UFO - so I added it to my goal list for June to move it to the flimsy stage at the very least. The blocks had been a Leader/Ender this spring. Now they are ready for the next steps.
Let's go check out more Rainbow fun . . .

Your blocks remind me that pastels make great quilts too! I don't work with a lot of pastels.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty pastel blocks. You've gotten a lot done on your RSC projects and it's just the first Saturday in the month.
ReplyDeleteYou found some pretty pastels to work with this week, Sara! I love those Snail Trail blocks especially. The Salt Water Taffy design looks like a great one for scraps!
ReplyDeleteThis month's RSC looks great in all your projects.
ReplyDeleteBravo on the pastels! My stash is also bright & vivid, so I had to do some digging. The Salt Water Taffy is going to be fun.
ReplyDeleteYou have lots of pastel blocks this week, I particularly love those star blocks.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty pastel blocks and fabrics!!!
ReplyDeletea bevy of beautiful blocks for sure....such a colorful array
ReplyDeleteI stared at my stash today and decided that I really need to attack it and work up some sort of scrappy quilt in rainbow colors....after I finish quilting what's in by TBQ pile, after I finish piecing my Judy Niermeyer quilt and king extensions, after I finish the guild mystery quilt, after I complete the guild challenge quilt, after I make valences for the MBdr and after I design and piece a quilt using the fabric I bought a few months ago....oh, and after I quilt some fabric I bought to make bedspreads for the guest room. That scrappy quilt is next in line! LOL
