OK - in the spirit of honesty - I broke down on Sunday and made a few of the Tulip Swirl blocks that Bonnie Hunter shared Friday. Every July she releases a free pattern for a Leader/Ender project, and this is what she's doing in 2026. She even shared several different layout ideas for them.
Ironically, the block units (2 squares/2 HSTs) are nearly identical to those I'm using for the Gleam QOV blocks. For Gleam I'm using 3.5" squares, and for Tulip Swirl she is using 2.5" squares. And the layout will be different for the tulips too.
The reorganization project in my sewing room has unearthed a bunch of "orphan" jelly roll strips left over from various projects. I used a couple of them for the Tulip Swirl units, and even had enough of that green one to cut the 2 pieces needed for a Ticker Tape block.
I know there will be many more of these blocks at some point, but for now I need to get back to work on some other on-going projects.
I had to chase the squirrels outta the sewing room when I came across her post with those blocks 😄I made one to see how'd it look & cuteness overload 😄I luv how you did the red white blue star layout!
ReplyDeleteWhat method are you using for the HST's in the tulip swirl block?
ReplyDeleteI have saved all of the annual L&E patterns (well, block designs) but I have not make a single one. I so enjoyed seeing Diann's RSC quilt with this block and then the blocks you've made, so this may be the year for me!
ReplyDeleteWell, that is cute! I try to stay away from the leader-ender challenge, as I never seem to finish the projects, but now I will have to have a look!
ReplyDeleteI like the look of both blocks and am amazed how different they look because of their color changes!
ReplyDeleteyes this L/E is a snap to piece and ideal for those strips lying around...great to see you in the DAR booth!
ReplyDeleteThose tulip blocks are really fun. I really Like the RWB ones. It's so easy to get side tracked during a sewing room clean up. But moving things out for good is a valid side track.
