What's on your design wall today?

My design wall this week was screaming for something that felt like spring. So I pulled out a kit for a paper pieced mini quilt with 4 colorful butterflies.
I began with the yellow butterfly, partly because yellow is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for April. But also, the yellow one came first because it had the most pieces. Each of the others (pink, aqua, purple) have slightly fewer pieces in those wings.
The parts for the pink butterfly are all ready for today's sewing.
There are also pieces cut for a couple more of the 16-patch churn dash blocks and a couple of Zipper blocks. I've chosen fabrics for the 2 Dutchman's Puzzle blocks with aqua and yellow for this month.
And once the binding is done that I'm working on, it will be time to choose another UFO to move forward and closer to finished.
OFF my design wall is Olivia's costume for her school musical. I'm so relieved that the alterations worked out, and it fits her nicely. For the play she'll have big bows in her hair, made from the same brocade as the cushion and curled to look like dog ears. FYI - she's a dog that turns into an ottoman in Beauty and the Beast.
My project goals for this week:
** finish binding on Twinkle Stars quilt
** quilt a few more hearts on Sew Together
** more yellow blocks for RSC collections
** choose next UFO to work on
** go through more scraps from the Big Grey Tote

The costume turned out wonderful! Did you have a pattern for the costume or did you just think it up yourself?
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on the costume. She looks darling... I hope she has a great time acting. You do get to see it, don't you? Your butterflies look great -- but look at all the pieces you are using for the pink one. I have such problems with paper piecing... I "can" do it but I generally don't choose to. Looking forward to seeing all the butterflies in the little quilt.
ReplyDeleteOlivia's costume looks great! Have you made costumes like that before? You could get more requests like that after this one! Your butterfly block is fun! I'll be interested to see how the mini quilt comes together.
