This and that

UPS delivered a big soft package Tuesday afternoon that was very exciting.  Quilters are the most generous people!!  Alycia sent 2 Quilts of Valor (quilted, bound, and labeled) for our little local group to use for upcoming presentations.  I just can't thank her enough!!  We've had an increase in the number of nominations lately, so this will be a big help to fulfill those requests. Thank you, thank you!!!

So, what else have I been working on in the sewing room?  I finally stopped procrastinating on the Farm Girl Vintage project.  I used 30 of the 12" blocks in this particular project.  As is, it's 60 x 72.  Adding borders is still an option, but I haven't decided yet - leave it as is, add 1 border, add 2 borders.  I would love some feedback.  For now it's hanging in the closet.

I had been trying to decide whether or not to add an outer border to the Shadow Star QOV.  The border I added is only 2" all around, but it does add a little something to it.  Now, to find a backing for this one so we can get it quilted.

All of the pieces for a new project have been cut.  This is Snowdrift, probably because the blocks have a snowflake look to them.  The pattern and fat quarters came in a Sew Sampler box from Fat Quarter Shop.  I subscribed to the monthly boxes in the past but cancelled when it was obvious I wasn't keeping up.  At some point I added the background fabric to the bag, and then it just lay in a drawer - forgotten.  This year I added it to my UFO list.  And this week I hope to start working on the blocks.

Those snowdrift fabrics are very pretty! It will be a nice quilt and definitely worth finishing. Since you ask for feedback on a border for Farmgirl Vintage, I will give you my opinion. I feel sampler quilts look better with a border to tie everything together and contain all the various blocks. But it’s just my opinion!

I agree with Carolyn that the sample quilt would benefit from a border and, if it were me, I do a narrow inner and wider outer border. I the Shadow Star looks great as it is. Glad Snowdrift is found!

Yellow and blue on the first quilt and dark blue on the second one...I like the look of a framed quilt! How wonderful to get finished quilts Alycia is a gem!

I am surprised Alycia had extra quilts with all they do there, so wonderful of her to help out. I think your farmgirl quilt could use a small inner border and then a little larger one. Audition some fabrics and see what it looks like. The patriotic one looks great just like it is!
