I am happy to say that one of the small UFO kits can be checked off the list - and in time to enjoy it for Halloween THIS year!
Bad Kitty (on the right) was a laser cut kit I purchased at least a year ago. The kit had only the cat silhouette and instructions, and we provided our own moon and background fabrics. I chose to make mine a 16" pillow, so also found backing and binding in my stash.
It was ironed onto the background right away - and then just hung neglected in the closet. I think I was a bit intimidated with how to stitch down all of those tiny little spikey parts. The solution? I used black thread and just did a straight stitch close to the edges of the cat. And then I did a blanket stitch around the moon. A very simple random curvy line of quilting every 3 inches or so finished it.

Nicely done! Bad Kitty looks right at home with the other kitty pillow……is that Good Kitty?
Oh, how cool!
Before I read your method I thought wow all those spikey's would make it hard to applique. Glad you found a solution as it is just as fun as can be! I have never bound a pillow(yet), do you like that method better? I have a few pillows I need to finish up and really soon!
Love your Halloween cats! They look so fun to make.
That's a great pillow design, and I love all the fabrics you came up with for it! Not sure I'd want to run into that kitty anywhere, though - he definitely looks like a "bad kitty," lol!
Spooky! Perfect for Halloween
those pillows are so cute - do you have a rotating bit of seasonal pillow cases and just keep changing them out? I have a couple for Xmas but that is it
