RSC25 - Week #18

It's green everywhere - outdoors and in my sewing room.

A couple of green Buckeye Beauty blocks joined the party.  These are adding up quickly, and I'm excited to see them come together.

The 30th Night Vision block is green.  I really love these blocks, and love the bonus pinwheels I made from the trimmed off corners of the Flying Geese in them. There is a light corner and a dark corner from every "goose".  I couldn't bear to just throw away those trimmings so I turned them into a light and a dark 4.5" unfinished pinwheel to go with each Night Vision block.

These are 9" blocks, so it would be a decent kid sized (45 x 54) quilt just by putting the blocks together with no sashing or borders.  But then what do I do with all those pinwheels?

I played with a couple of ideas, but this one appeals to me the most.  I'm thinking a wide border - 4" maybe - around the Night Vision blocks, then the pinwheels.  And then another wide border outside of the pinwheels to finish it off.  My husband walked through as I was laying this out on the floor and said it made his eyes spin.  This coming from the guy who NEVER has anything to say about my quilting.  So now I'm second guessing this plan.

And this layout only used about 2/3 of those pinwheels.

The most important RAINBOW sewing this week was to finish the final 2 points for the star quilt I'm working on.  No scraps involved with this project - but it is creating scraps.  There are still enough left of the strip sets to make another star.  Hmmm . . . and we won't even talk about how much extra I bought of these solid fabrics.

I'll be linking up today with Rainbow Scrap Challenge:

Sara, I would go with your plan. The bonus pinwheels add interest to the night watch blocks. I love this quilt and your idea for borders works for me. Great idea!!

I like the plan and the look - I do know what he is talking about though. I have a couple pieces of fabric that I bought ages ago and use in small amounts as they make my eyes "spin" one is a black and white diagonal strip - I get dizzy looking at it

I like your plan for the Night Vision blocks, the pinwheel border is really cool. Looking forward to seeing how you decide to finish it off.

Love Night Vision quilt and when they come together there's even more to look at as a secondary pattern appears. Awesome. You don't mention for whom this quilt is for so, IMHO, I would keep the pinwheels to make a baby quilt. To have a quilt for the big brother or sister and the baby has a smaller version, it might be cool. Like I said, just thinking out loud here. Enjoy! ;^)

Night Vision is going to be gorgeous! I think the border separating the big blocks from the pinwheels will make a difference in your husband's reaction next time he sees it. And look at that Lone Star - wow - I love the way the color swirls around!

Your hubby's comment cracks me up! I think adding the pinwheel border is a great idea and using a solid for the other borders will calm it down I think.
