I kept thinking it was Sunday for the past 3 days, and now here it is Monday finally. And a bitter cold Monday morning around here.
The only actual sewing that occurred this weekend was binding, and piecing a back for a Quilt of Valor. But I did spend a lot of time sorting through the quilts and quilt tops - and block sets - that we have for Quilts of Valor. I paired up 4 tops with backs to give to a long armer for quilting. And I finished the binding on these placemats.
Our QOV group has been given several patriotic panels to use in quilts, and I pulled this one out to play with some ideas. There were more than enough of the 4-Patch Fun blocks to surround the panel. I think it's way too busy. What do you think? Maybe star blocks would work better for this.
This is the next PIG that I plan to work on. The February "spools" mini arrived in the mail on Saturday. It shouldn't take long as it has very few small pieces.

Still looks like progress even if not much actual stitching got done. Is there any way you could put a stop border between the panel and the blocks? I think they look good with it, but maybe not right next to it.
Audition a solid or near-solid border around the panel, to define and set off the image in the panel, and then add the 4-Patch Fun blocks.
I like the four patches -- the eagle is big enough to keep from being overwhelmed. Bitterly cold here, too. But the sun is shining brightly.
Ooh, your spool mini quilt for February caught my attention! That looks like fun!
I like Kate’s suggestion of a stop border around the panel and then the blocks as they do look good with the panel.
working on hearts reminds me of how close to February we are
Love the new kit, very timely for the season. I would do a plain border around the panel and then add those blocks. A little separation is all that's needed.
I agree with who ever said do a border around the panel and then see what works! Nice projects. Bitterly cold here today luckily we stay home on Tuesday!
You have the 4 patch fun blocks sewn into groups of 4 correct? In stead if that I think if they were individual and they zig zagged around the panel after a stop border was sewn to the panel they would look nice. Was that clear as mud?
Very pretty place mats! The new kit looks like fun!
