It's January in the upper Midwest which normally would bring cold and snow. I never used to mind winter, because we went skiing. And we had jobs that kept us very busy. Now that we're old and retired (relatively) those fun ski trips are long in the past, and we're home a LOT. With little interaction with actual live people. And this month has been so gloomy! Every day we have a grey sky and brown landscape. ARGGGG! Can you tell I'm struggling with that scenario?
Maybe I should be sewing with brighter colors this week. And reading cheerful books. And stop watching/reading the news! And get out of the house to do something fun!
OK - I did leave the house long enough yesterday to pick up a prescription refill and a few groceries. That doesn't count as doing something fun however. But I did get some sewing done that is somewhat cheerful. The 8 blocks needed for month #1 of Saturday Sampler are pieced, with a goal of getting them sewn into rows today. I also got a start on tracing out some of the applique pieces that maybe will go onto this section of the quilt.
A few more Lupines & Laughter blocks were my leaders/enders while sewing all those strips together. So far only 5 blocks are finished - 3 of one and 2 of the other. It's forward progress, and has no deadline.

I hear you about the string of grey days….its an event when the sun comes out for a bit before disappearing again. And I avoid the news for days at a time when I start feeling the blues coming on. We do what we have to do in order to get/stay in a good mental state, no?
such pretty blocks...i'm with you on winter...gloomy mostly here as well...probably why i play with kaffe fabrics this time of year...i could go for some fun as well...
Beautiful blocks!!! The snowflakes are going to be so pretty!
Your blocks are beautiful! When I was working I hated winter since it was dark so early. Now that I’m retired, I don’t mind the dreary days since I can quilt, read or take a road trip with my husband. I also stop reading the news when I need to.
Love both of your projects. Your snowflake really makes me want to follow the example. Also your Saturday Sampler: is that a local quilt shop or something online. I can always follow down a rabbit hole. I agree with the weather; Wisconsin is similar and varying during the day or days on end.
Oh yes - gloomy days require bright fabrics, happy goofy tv show and ... chocolate.... Not lots - just enough haha! your making good progress on L&L
Your Lupine and Laughter blocks will surely brighten up the days, Sara! They are so pretty!
We've had sun, but it's been really windy, so just nasty to be outside. You've made good progress on several of your WIPs. Your Lupine blocks are looking good.
You need to go to a quilt shop or show or something FUN!
I totally get what you are saying about not interacting with people much and staying home because of the weather. Now you know why we go south, different life here.
