Halloween 60 degree runners

This border print was so fun to use for these table runners and toppers. The dancing skeletons and mummies in the purple section just make me smile every time I look at them. 

Obviously I ordered too much of this fabric when I wanted it for the border on the Saturday Sampler, but it's OK because I've used up all but some scraps for these.  I had enough for 3 of the 60 degree runners, 2 of which are identical.  I think I like the purple on the outside the best but all of them are cute.  Then I used leftover triangles to make these hexie table toppers.  The one with the purple outside is slightly smaller because the white ghosts were a bit distracting in the center. 

Now I need to get these quilted and bound.  They should make good gifts.  And I shouldn't admit this but I did find another Halloween border print plus a couple of other border prints in my stash.  I may have a problem.  LOL  So there are probably more 60 degree runners in my future -including the red geranium ones made with the fabric I just bought.

I'm on a roll and another UFO is done.  This 60 degree runner top has been waiting to be quilted since November 2015. That's the good - or bad - thing about blogging. It's my journal and I can always go back and see when I worked on something.

 

I sandwiched this runner and began to hand quilt it, but then I got distracted and it's just been folded up and waiting, with the needle still in place. Yesterday I sat down and pulled the hand stitching out while visiting with my sister-in-law who had stopped in.  After supper I went into my sewing room and machine quilted this in a very simple manner, and then dug into the stash for a dark red for binding.  I woke up really early this morning so I sewed on that binding and now even the binding is hand stitched down.  This was #9 on my 2017 UFO Challenge list and now I can check it off as done.

Friday finish

Another 60 degree table runner is made - this one with a coffee theme.  Now I need to figure out a plan for the scraps. They would make good hot pads maybe.

I can't seem to resist these border prints and making this runner pattern, but in reality I have more table runners than I will ever use. So why do I keep making them? Because I like them I guess. I should keep finishing some of these and then gift them.  Or even donate them.

I sorted through some fabrics on Wednesday and realized that I have way too many panels and border prints.  And the overall clutter in my sewing room is weighing me down right now.

A small UFO finish

It's finally DONE!

This 60 degree table runner has been half quilted for about 2 years. I started trying to free motion quilt it myself using a quilting design drawn on Press n Seal and "stuck" onto the top of the runner.  The process works fine, but I was still making a mess of the actual quilting. So I stopped halfway through.

This winter I picked it up one day and started picking out all of those quilting stitches. I threw away the piece of batting and put the muslin backing in the bin to use as a foundation for string blocks.  Last weekend I noticed this black backing section that was left over from a recent quilt and the leftover batting was folded with it. And guess what? It was the perfect size to use with this runner.

I added some very simple quilting to this by just following the lines on the fabric. I found the striped binding in my binding drawer that had been cut and was all ready to go when I originally made the runner. What a relief to finally check off this one from my UFO list.

Finish It Up Friday

I have a UFO finish this week - my 60 degree Poppy Fields table runner.  This one is hand quilted and made from fabric I bought last summer on a shop hop bus trip to Minnesota.  I have 2 more 60 degree runners in my UFO pile and I'm determined to get them finished. I have just a few stitches left to finish the hand quilting on this octagon table topper. It's done with the 60 degree ruler and the leftovers when you make the long 60 degree runner.  I just adore these poppies - so summery!  

I've been doing an outline stitch around each flower and each flower center.  

Fall table topper

My office needed some colorful fall decor, so I brought a small 60 degree table topper to use on my office table.  I made this runner both as the original shape (long rectangular) and the hexagon shape.  These little ones just use 6 triangles and go together in about 5 minutes. This one is hand quilted around the floral and along the stripes.

Digging into my new purchases

I made good use of my afternoon off yesterday to get a couple of things made using my new purchases from the quilt shop hop.  First thing I made was the pillowcase for my grandson using the Dinosaur Train fabric I found in Old Alley Quilt Shop in Sherburn MN.  He loves Dinosaur Train so this was a perfect purchase.

My second project was making two 60 degree table runners from this gorgeous poppy fabric. This was a purchase in New London MN at The Flying Goose.  Both of these are sandwiched with back and batting - ready to quilt.  I bought 3 different border prints to use for 60 degree runners at 3 different shops.  I'm a little obsessed with these.

Scraps put to use

This short 60 degree runner was made using the scraps from the baby quilt. I will do some simple hand quilting on this and bind it with the same cheddar I used on the quilt.  Maybe it will be useful in the nursery.

Now I'll have some hand work to do when I am staying at my daughter's house after the babies come.

60 degree TREES #2

I have finished the second of two 60 degree table runners that used this same red and green Christmas tree fabric.  It is always interesting how different they look just by cutting the fabric in a different spot. 

This one has a row of "Ho-Ho-Ho" showing up around the center. The other one has a row of ornaments toward the outside area.  I put a striped candy cane binding on both.  I'm keeping this one, but giving the other one away as a gift.

60 Degree Runners

My body clock is messed up.  I am NOT a morning person and normally am perfectly happy to stay in bed until at least 7:30.  But I went to bed early last night and was wide awake at 5:00 am this morning. 

It is amazing what a person can accomplish during those hours when normally asleep.  I made my coffee, put in a load of laundry, and then headed to my sewing room.  The cat even had to come down about 7:30 to demand breakfast because I lost track of time.

These 2 new 60 degree runners are ready to quilt and bind. I still have a couple more of these cut and ready to sew together. It is really one of my favorites and make terrific gifts.

Plus I made another self-binding baby blanket, add 4 more rows of little half-square triangles to a scrappy project, and made a Christmas block that is going to become a mug rug for a gift.  And it's not quite 11:00 am. 

60 degree table runner

This was my UFO goal for this week - to get the binding done on this table runner.  I can mark it DONE.

I actually made 2 of these fall leaf themed 60 degree runners.  I have this one bound, but had to go buy a little fabric to do the binding on the second one because my original scrap was only big enough for the first one.

Isn't the quilting cute? Carly put spikey flowers on these to look like the flowers in the fabric.
