Changing seasons

I love switching out my decorations around the house to showcase a new season and fall has arrived here in South Dakota, at least for a few days.  The temperatures today are nearly 40 degrees cooler than Monday was.  It's soup weather!  Or maybe chili.  So I added my fall leaf table topper to my kitchen counter to replace the patriotic summer runner.  I made this one several years ago but it makes me smile every year when I pull it out again.

Decorating with quilts

Decorating my home with seasonal quilts is part of the main enjoyment of quilting.  Last fall I made this door hanging for Halloween. It was made with the Twister ruler, fabric from my stash, and graph paper. The graph paper was because I saw this online, and knew I could "do the math" myself and not buy a pattern.  I love this quilt.  And my front door faces north, so I don't have to worry about the sun shining right on my quilt to fade it.

I hung this on my door using an expanable curtain rod and 2 of the removable hooks.  Those hooks plus curtain rods serve as the hangers for 3 quilts currently hanging in my home. Very easy and it allows me to move them without leaving hardware holes in my walls.

Sunday was spent decorating the house for the holidays. I have always enjoyed that task, although it was more fun when my girls were around to be part of the fun.  But I have a wonderful ornament collection that is full of great memories of Christmas, so decorating is always enjoyable for me.

We decided to move the Christmas tree out into the living room this year so there is more room to sit in the family room when everyone is home.  Our big tree takes up a lot of space.  So I bought a new tree for the family room that is tall and skinny and doesn't take up as much space.  It is pre-lit and I haven't hung any decorations on it yet, but I like it already.  I am thinking it might just get some big red bows to keep it simple.
