Pinwheels

It was my turn for some sewing on the group charity project that my friends Kelly, Marilyn, Pam, and Sylvia (and me) are working on.  We all got together and cut the fabric for this one evening, then Pam, Marilyn, and Kelly sewed the pinwheel blocks and then sewed the blocks into sections.  I made the binding last week and this weekend I sewed the blue border sections onto the center, then added the pink pinwheel borders, and finally the green with blue pinwheel borders.

It's ready to go to the quilter and then Sylvia plans to do the binding. When finished it will go to a local gymnastics group to raffle for a fund raiser.

Design Wall Monday: Quilting for a cause

These pinwheel blocks form the main focus of the charity quilt that my friends and I are working on currently. We met for coffee Sunday afternoon and brought all of the pieces each person worked on. My part was easy - I only made the binding. Now this week the other ladies will work on various sections of the top and then we'll get together again and put the sections together to finish the top.

Stay tuned for updates. And check out what other quilters are doing at Judy's Design Wall Monday at http://www.patchworktimes.com .

V is for violet

I have to share one more Heartland Quilt Guild project.  This one is a darling baby quilt that will be given to the first baby of 2014 born at the local hospital.

This little alphabet quilt is turning out just as cute as can be.  Members selected a block to applique and embroider. Some were done by hand, some by machine, and some are a combination.

My block was the V block and I finished it yesterday.  I need to drop it in the mail to the member who is putting together the quilt top so she can get that row completed.

Another guild project

A few months ago when our guild had a sew-in day, we all worked on making a very traditional star block. We were all instructed to bring a light, dark, and a medium fabric to use in our blocks. This month we put the blocks together into a top. We do need a couple more blocks to finish the final row, but it is looking good. And isn't it amazing how wonderful the blocks all look together?

Butterflies

Heartland Quilt Guild had a sew-in day today and we worked on a couple of charity projects. One of those projects was butterfly blocks for a quilt that will go towards a fundraiser for a local butterfly garden to honor a child who died as the result of a drunk driver.

I think these lovely butterfly blocks are going to make a quilt just as pretty as a spring garden.

Pillowcases for a cause

Yesterday I mailed these 3 pillowcases to Connecticut for a project that is collecting 600 pillowcases to give to the children of Newtown, CT.

I initially read about this project on Canton Village Quilt Works blog and knew that I could contribute something. I had these pillowcases already made so they went right into the mail.  It is such a small thing, but I hope that the bright colors bring a smile to some faces following such a horrific event in their community.

If you want to send pillowcases too, follow my link for the mailing address.  The goal is December 27th, so time is short with the holiday in there.

Sunday finish

My heartstrings blocks have finally become a complete quilt top! The color is much brighter than this photo looks - with bright lime green strips running diagonally throughout the blocks.

This top is being donated to the Heartstrings project where someone else will tie or quilt it, and bind it. Then it will go to a deserving project.

This was a great way to use up some of my scraps and make something for a good cause. Check out the heartstrings project at this link.
