Finished (or not) Friday

I felt less than ambitious this week.  We had several grey, chilly, rainy days and I found it much easier to curl up UNDER a quilt and read a good book instead of sewing or anything else. Sometimes that's just what the brain wants.

I got the binding done on the Churn Dash baby quilt.  A couple of years ago our guild made 12" churn dash blocks using solids and novelty prints for a New Years Baby project.  I loved making the blocks so much that I made several to give to the guild project, and then just kept making them.  I also made some 6" blocks with scraps and included them in my quilts.  Yes - that is plural because there is another one of these hanging in the closet waiting to be quilted.  And I have a whole drawer full of novelty prints so I'm sure there will be more novelty churn dash blocks some day in the near future.  They are quick sewing, and bright happy sewing.

I worked on the borders for the Honey Bee quilt that was part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year.  There is another set of bee blocks and enough of the border fabrics to make another smaller version.

And I got the Christmas block made for this week's Blockheads.  Jessica Rose is this week's designer and she calls this Kindred Rose.  I made it in the 12" size.  The one change I made was to replace the pieced center heart with a fussy cut square.  For the bright version - that isn't made yet - I'll do that heart as the pattern shows.  Getting that second block done is my main goal for the day.

The churn dash quilt is too sweet--I do love that pattern, also!!! The new Christmas block is stunning--balance color and fussy cut center make it perfect!

I like your version on the christmas block better than the one with the heart in the center.

How big will this bee quilt come out to? I love that beehive fabric border.

The churn dash quilt looks great! I'm looking forward to seeing the bees in their quilt top, too. What good book have you been reading? I'm always curious!

The churn dash finish sure is a sweet baby quilt. Your fussy cut center for the Christmas block is awesome.

It's hard to stop making a fun block like churn dash. I like quilts with more than one size of the same block.

Some days are so dreary that a book and a warm quilt are great options!

The chord dash block is a fun one to sew and looks great when using different sized blocks. I’ve always had it in the back of my mind to mix in rectangle churn dash bkkos too…..sigh, so many ideas!

Thanks for sharing your version of Jessica's pattern, Kindred Rose. I like what you did with it. It's nice to have different suggestions for novelty blocks as the center of attention.

A rainy day with a good book is nice way to reset after lots of sewing room time. I did the same yesterday, but did manage to get in a bit of sewing time. The Christmas block turned out really cute.
