Sashing the Saturday Sampler

The Saturday Sampler block for this month has been "sashed".

This set of blocks is scrappy Christmas, and I've been trying to use a good variety of reds and greens from the stash.  All of the blocks will have the same red and grey in that pieced sashing.  The secondary design is really what makes this quilt pattern special.

Now that we have 9 of the 12 blocks done, I've been thinking about how to finish this quilt.  The pattern does call for outer borders and I have plenty of the grey snowflake and the red herringbone to do that.  But adding a Christmasy large print for a final border might be good too.

I've been making 3.5" hourglass blocks with the trimmings from the flying geese in that pieced sashing.  Each little stack in this picture has 4 blocks, so there are currently 36 of them.  I have no idea what they will become, but I just had to use up those triangle trimmings instead of throwing them away.

Your Christmas quilt is lovely! You are wise to keep up piecing those extra triangles now. You can have a small Christmas throw too. Happy stitching!
